The 7 Best Ping Pong Nets in 2024

Last Updated on April 24, 2024 by Alex Horscroft

Having compared all of the nets available in 2024, the JOOLA Premium Inside ping pong net stands out as the best option. It’s inexpensive, made by a top table tennis brand, and features both height and tension adjustment which is a non-negotiable for keen players.

Of course, there are many other excellent options too. In this guide, I give brief reviews on each of my 7 favorite ping pong nets in 2024. I’ve tried to include multiple types of nets so there is almost certainly one for everyone!

The 7 Best Ping Pong Nets

1. JOOLA Premium Inside Table Tennis Net — Best Clip Net

joola insideping pong net

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Fits tables up to 1.5” thick
  • Height adjustment
  • Tension adjustment

Cons

  • None

To me, the best net for ping pong is the JOOLA Premium Inside net. It’s clip style meaning you can attach it very quickly, and it is more robust than many other clip-style nets. In fact, I actually think it’s a touch more secure than the JOOLA Premium Avanti clamp net which really drives this idea home.

It fits tables up to 1.5” thick and features both tension and height adjustment, so rest assured that you can set up the net just as the rules require. The reason this net takes the top spot is because it both has the quality and value that players are after. It’s easily good enough for league play, but considering its cheap price, even casual players will want to pick it up.

Fun fact: This net is named after the JOOLA Inside table which is my favorite affordable table. Click the link to check out my review.

2. JOOLA Premium Avanti Net — Affordable Clamp Net

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Fits tables up to 1.5” thick
  • Height adjustment
  • Tension adjustment

Cons

  • Not as thick as other clamp nets

There really is little in it between the JOOLA Premium Avanti and the Premium Inside. They’re both made by JOOLA and are priced just a dollar apart. Yet I think the Inside narrowly edges it. The reason for this is the Avanti isn’t quite as solid. The posts are thinner and the clamp isn’t top-notch.

Compare it to the likes of the JOOLA WM clamp table tennis table net. It’s clear that the Premium Avanti is not as well built. That being said, the Avanti is half the price and the best affordable clamp net on the market.

3. JOOLA WM Professional Table Tennis Net — Best Clamp Net

joola ping pong net

Pros

  • Very robust
  • Fits tables up to 1.5” thick
  • Height adjustment
  • Tension adjustment
  • ITTF approved

Cons

  • Expensive

If you’re after top quality, perhaps because you’re looking for a net for your club, then I recommend the JOOLA WM ping pong net. It’s the strongest and most durable net on this list and very high quality.

It’s also the only net here which is approved by the ITTF. You can tell by the logo printed on the frame. This means it has passed strict testing requirements, making it eligible for use in any ITTF tournaments.

The downside of the JOOLA WM net is that it is damn expensive. For me, all of the elite clamp nets are overpriced, so unless you are very strict when it comes to nets in table tennis, I’d recommend getting a net that provides more value for money.

4. GEWO CS Profi Table Tennis Net

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Fits tables up to 2” thick
  • Height adjustment
  • Tension adjustment

Cons

  • Not as thick as other clamp nets

The GEWO CS Profi is a clamp-style net that closely resembles the JOOLA Avanti. These two nets represent the most affordable clamp nets on the market from trusted table tennis brands.

Separating the two is fairly difficult. Both are not as solid as the more expensive offerings, but more than adequate for most buyers. The Avanti has the advantage of being 5 bucks cheaper whereas the Gewo CS Profi fits tables under 2” thick rather than 1.5”.

5. STIGA Premium Clipper Net

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Height adjustment
  • Tension adjustment
  • Includes net gauge tool

Cons

  • Fits tables up to 1” thick

If you’re after a clip-on net for ping pong, then the STIGA Premium Clipper is certainly one to consider. It’s very affordable and only a little more than the JOOLA Inside net. Unsurprisingly, it’s got height and tension adjustment just like you’d expect from a top brand such as STIGA.

What this net has that the JOOLA Inside
doesn’t is a net gauge tool. This helps to ensure you calibrate the net to the correct height. While it’s a nice add-on, it only costs a few bucks individually, so overall, the JOOLA Inside net provides marginally better value in my eyes.

6. PRO-SPIN All-in-One Portable Ping Pong Net — Best Retractable Net

retractable ping pong net

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Lightweight and space-saving
  • Fits table up to 2” thick
  • Fits tables up to 6 ft wide

Cons

  • Weak clamps
  • No height or tension adjustment

The PRO-SPIN retractable ping pong net brings something to the table that the others don’t — it’s the perfect net for on-the-go!

With its plastic construction, it weighs just 140 grams and takes up barely any space in your bag. It can also turn virtually any table into a table tennis table where other types of nets can’t. It’s one of the longest nets available as it extends to 6 ft!

The caveat is that this net is not for serious play. It features no adjustability and the clamps are on the weak side. If your table is uneven, your net will be too.

7. JOOLA WX Aluminum Outdoor Net — Best Outdoor Net

Pros

  • Weatherproof
  • Fits tables up to 1.5” thick
  • Height adjustment
  • Tension adjustment

Cons

  • Not as thick as other clamp nets
  • Costs a little more than indoor nets

For those of you playing outdoors, the JOOLA WX net is the clear best option to buy. It emulates JOOLA’s other nets somewhat (besides the attractive blue anodized finish), sporting height and tension adjustment, and surprisingly, its clamp style, making it very secure.

There’s little to dislike. Sure, it’s not quite as robust as other clamp nets, but that’s to be expected. It also costs a little more than the Avanti, which again, makes sense as it is designed for the outdoors. A superb net if you ask me!

Ping Pong Net Buyer’s Guide

Types of Nets

Clamp

If you want the best quality net for your ping pong table that money can buy, a clamp net is what you are after. Not only are they the most durable, but they are also the most secure — they won’t budge if you accidentally knock the table.

They’re simply built to a higher standard than the rest which is they are the most common in competitive play. The main drawback to clamp table tennis table nets is that they are the most expensive. They also take the longest to set up as you have to screw the clamp to the table. That being said it doesn’t take very long — it’s just a lot slower than the rest!

Clip-On

Clip-on nets are the perfect blend of quality and convenience. High-quality clip-on nets are robust and attach to the table in seconds, so you can get playing right away.

Yet unlike with clamp nets, you have to be more perceptive when it comes to picking the right model. You can almost blindly buy a clamp net and it will be high quality. However, when it comes to clip-on nets there is a lot of variation. Pick right though, and you save a pretty penny. At my club, around 70% of the ping pong nets for our tables are clip-on style.

Retractable

Retractable ping pong table nets are in a league of their own when it comes to versatility and portability. They are extremely lightweight and take up barely any room at all, making them easy to carry on the go.

You can also fit them on virtually any type of table. The plastic clamp supports thin and thick tables alike and can support narrow and wide tables too. No other type of net can boast this quality. Therefore, if you want to fashion your own play surface out of a random table, a retractable net is the one you want.

Metal

Metals ping pong table nets are the most inferior of the nets. The only places you tend to see them are on outdoor tables. As they are made of aluminum they are rigid and waterproof. The issue is that this rigid form significantly alters gameplay. If you hit the net the ball bounces off forcefully, which is very different from normal.

Height Adjustment

If you’re serious about table tennis, height adjustment is a must. This ensures your net is set to the correct height, if it isn’t it will either impede shots that should have gone in or let too many shots pass over.

Sellers usually list if a net has height adjustment, but if they don’t you can usually see by checking out the posts. If there is a knob beneath, it likely has height adjustment.

Tension Adjustment

Similarly, tension adjustment is a big deal for serious players. A slack net causes those horrible balls that dribble over the net, giving you no time to make a return.

Most forms of tension adjustment use linked metal balls that slot into a notch at the back of the posts.

Closing Thoughts

There are many excellent ping pong nets available, and which you are after depends on your needs. For most, the JOOLA Premium Inside is the best option. It’s very high quality, made by a top table tennis brand, and underpriced considering the rest of the market.

That being said the JOOL Avanti is basically just as good in my opinion. It is the perfect buy for players who want an affordable clamp-style net.
