Black Ping Pong Tables: A Complete Guide

Last Updated on April 24, 2024 by Alex Horscroft

Blue or green tables? Pfft. Who wants to run with the crowd? I’m a sucker for an interesting-looking table tennis table, and given the fact you are here, I guess you are too.

I can’t ever recall playing on a black ping pong table, but by golly, they look cool. Being as rare as they are, you might think that only a few models exist, but this is not actually the case. There is actually a range of models to choose from! In this guide, I cover all of your options when it comes to black table tennis tables, and I discuss the pros and cons of each.

So without any further ado, let’s have a little look at what is on offer.

Best Indoor Black Ping Pong Tables (Regulation Size)

JOOLA Madeira Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table madeira

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 22 mm
Type: 1-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 315 lbs
Price: $$$$

Pros

  • Thick table top
  • Solo playback mode
  • Includes high-quality net
  • Bat and ball holders
  • 6” double locking wheels

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Strap looks out of place
  • Not compatible with conventional nets
  • Expensive

When I first saw this JOOLA black ping pong table it reminded of me the designer models, and I half expected it to have the class appearance and average performance as is so often the case with these tables. However, I should have known better. JOOLA are table tennis experts, and they delivered both terms of aesthetics and performance with the Madeira.

Featuring stunning ash hardwood, it really does stand out as it’s a modern black ping pong table — it would certainly feel right at home in an office or studio setting. That being said, it has the quality of a club table. At 22 mm thick, it has sufficient bounce quality that any advanced player would be happy to play on it.

Two of the glaring cons with the Madeira are the weight and cost. Given its stunning design, the cost is to be expected — I see it as a statement piece as much as a table tennis table. If you’re looking for a cost-effective tournament-level table, this is not it. As for the weight, it’s a big boy at 315 lbs. Thank god for the 6” double locking wheels. They are really needed here.

Another aspect you might be interested to know about the Madeira is that it doesn’t have space for a conventional net. Instead, it uses an integrated net which I should note while removable, can be left in when you fold up the table. It also appears to be height and tension adjustable.

STIGA Onyx Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table onyx

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 25 mm
Type: 2-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: Unknown
Price: $$$

Pros

  • Thick table top
  • Super value for money
  • Slick appearance
  • Solo playback mode
  • Includes high-quality net
  • 10-minute assembly
  • 3-year warranty period

Cons

  • No weight listed

When I started writing this list, I wasn’t expecting to find a gem, so I’m pretty damn surprised by the black Onyx ping pong table. There’s not a great deal of info available on STIGA’s website as I believe it is a new model, but there’s enough to know that this is a cracking black STIGA ping pong table.

Let’s start off with its appearance. This thing is simply gorgeous. It’s an almost all black ping pong table with gold accents. If I were to describe it in one word it would be ‘slick’. I might be in love.

As for the playability, it continues to impress. The STIGA Onyx features a 25 mm table top which is the same kind used for professional play. Surely things can’t get any better? Well, they do. The Onyx is very well-priced. In fact, it’s a great deal cheaper than all of the classic tournament tables on the market. So in my eyes, there’s tough to see any negatives here.

Like inexpensive models, it takes just 10 minutes to set up (whereas tournament tables often take much longer), and it also comes with 3 years of warranty. If you want a well-priced and stunning tournament-quality model, it is the best black ping pong table on this list by a landslide.

Killerspin MyT 415 Max Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table My T415 max

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 25 mm
Type: 2-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 310 lbs
Price: $$$$

Pros

  • Thick table top
  • Solo playback mode
  • Compact storage
  • Free custom decal
  • Includes high-quality net
  • Bat and ball holders

Cons

  • 1-year warranty
  • Not great value for money

Remember the Killerspin MyT 415 from earlier? Well, this is what that table wishes it could be. It’s the most advanced model from the MyT series and it impresses as it should. Its 25 mm play surface dwarfs the inferior MyT 415’s 16 mm table top, making it a great table for serious training despite its designer appearance.

As you would expect, it’s also a much more robust table than the MyT415, it weighs a staggering 310 lbs making it one of the heaviest tables on this list. It does, however, split into two halves, and each half has 4x 4” wheels so mobility is not much of an issue.

I really like the ball holders with this Killerspin range of tables. They look more attractive than the ball holders for other tables in my opinion, and they are more accessible as they are located at the ends of the table rather in the middle.

Ultimately though, while this table looks pretty amazing and performs excellently, it’s still too expensive in my eyes. I also feel it really should come with more than 1 year of warranty coverage.

Best Black Outdoor Ping Pong Tables

Cornilleau Black Code Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table black code

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 5 mm (resin laminate)
Type: 1-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 148 lbs
Price: $$$$$

Pros

  • Anti-glare playing surface
  • Comes in four color accents
  • Solo playback mode
  • Safe folding mechanism
  • Bat and ball holders
  • 8” double oversized wheels
  • Unbeatable 10-year warranty

Cons

  • Poorer bounce than indoor tables
  • Not great value for money
  • Fixed net with no height adjustment
  • 2-hour assembly time

The Cornilleau Black Code is an expensive outdoor table tennis table that is a great option if you are looking for a long warranty period. Cornilleau are market leaders when it comes to warranty periods for outdoor tables, offering 10 years of coverage. While this is exceptionally long in isolation, you also have to consider that many indoor tables (which are not put through the wringer), only have a year or two of warranty. Thanks, Cornilleau!

Onto the table itself, the Black Code features a 5 mm resin laminate playing surface which is a little better than average when it comes to outdoor tables. Just know that in general, outdoor tables have a far inferior bounce to indoor tables, but for an outdoor model, the Black Code is pretty decent. The surface is also anti-reflective which is super useful for those sunny days when the glare is blinding.

Another quality feature of this table is that it uses Cornilleau’s DSI locking system. This is among the safest tech in the business and prevents the table from unexpectedly falling when you open or close it. As such, this table is a good option for kids.

Just know that assembly time is a bit on the lengthy side. It is stated as 2 hours which is above average, but I wouldn’t let that put you off by any means.

Cornilleau 500X Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table 500x

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 6 mm (resin laminate)
Type: 1-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 146 lbs
Price: $$$$$

Pros

  • Anti-glare playing surface
  • Solo playback mode
  • Bat and ball holders
  • Safe folding mechanism
  • 8” double oversized wheels
  • Abacus scorer
  • Unbeatable 10-year warranty

Cons

  • Poorer bounce than indoor tables
  • Not great value for money
  • Fixed nets are hard to replace
  • 2-hour assembly time

The 500X is remarkably similar to the Black Code as it shares many features such as bat and ball holders, 8” double oversized wheels, and a stellar 10-year warranty. In fact, finding differences between the two models besides the obvious appearance changes is pretty tough. But fear not, I invested the time in research so that you don’t have to.

The main difference between these two models are the play surfaces. They are both made from resin laminate but the 500X is 1 mm thicker at 6 mm. But this is not the only difference. It uses a MATTOP coating rather than a SOFTMAT coating. The latter reduces glare by 3x relative to uncoated tables. However, MATTOP tech bumps this up to 10x, so the difference really is quite profound.

Besides this, the 500X has a nifty little abacus scorer to keep track of games, two fewer brakes at 2 rather than 4, and it has both height and tension adjustment on the net rather than just height adjustment. It’s also a little bigger when folded at 75 x 167 x 155 cm, rather than 75 x 152 x 155 cm.

Cornilleau 600X Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table 600x

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 7 mm (resin laminate)
Type: 1-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 170 lbs
Price: $$$$$

Pros

  • Anti-glare playing surface
  • Solo playback mode
  • Bat and ball holders
  • Safe folding mechanism
  • 8” double oversized wheels
  • Abacus scorer
  • Unbeatable 10-year warranty

Cons

  • Poorer bounce than indoor tables
  • Not great value for money
  • Fixed nets are hard to replace
  • 2-hour assembly time

As you can guess, the 600X is the model up from the 500X. I won’t harp on about core features as they are the same, so let’s tackle the differences.

Firstly, the resin laminate play surface is thicker at 7 mm. At such a thickness, this really is one of the best outdoor tables you can purchase when it comes to bounce quality. To support this surface, it has a slightly thicker Aluzinc frame at 60 mm compared to 50 mm — nothing too major. The legs are also a little thicker, but again, this is of little note.

Onto the fun extras. The Cornilleau 600X features a dedicated cup holder which swings out from the side of the table. I’ve never seen this before and it’s pretty cool! Speaking of hidden compartments, the 600X also has extra ball holders. With this table, you store balls in the middle section and at the ends of the table. This means you can quickly grab a ball from the dispenser at the end and keep playing, rather than having to walk around to the middle.

Finally, the 600X has a transport handle for lifting the table over steep inclines or declines. Couple this with its large 8” double wheels and you’ve got one of the best portable tables on the market.

Killerspin MyT7 BlackStorm Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table myt7 blackstorm

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 4 mm (alu-plastic laminate)
Type: 2-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 170 lbs
Price: $$$$

Pros

  • Solo playback mode
  • Bat and ball holders
  • Compact storage
  • Includes high-quality net

Cons

  • Poorer bounce than indoor tables
  • 1-year warranty
  • Not great value for money

As my third Killerspin table, I have the MyT7 BlackStorm, it is also the only outdoor Killerspin table on my list. As it is a part of the MyT Pocket series, it shares a near-identical shape with the other tables — it’s a 2-piece model that supports solo playback mode.

Where it diverges from the other two tables are its adjustments to survive outdoors. The playing surface is 4 mm thick and made from alu-plastic. Unfortunately, I am unsure how this compares with the resin-laminate top that the Cornilleau outdoor tables use, however, at 4 mm it is thinner, so expect a lower-quality bounce.

The benefit of choosing this model over the other outdoor tables is the price. While still expensive (outdoor tables cost more than indoor models), the MyT7 Blackstorm is cheaper than the Cornilleau Black Code by several hundred dollars. Therefore it could be a good option for some people. It seems fellow players like it as it currently has a 4.9-star rating on Killerspin’s website.

Best Designer Black Ping Pong Tables

Killerspin SVR BlackWing – O Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table blackwing O

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: 18 mm
Type: 1-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 350 lbs
Price: $$$$$

Pros

  • Stunning design
  • Suitable for outdoor play
  • Free custom decal
  • Includes high-quality net
  • In-built bat and ball holders

Cons

  • 1-year warranty
  • Not great value for money

The next Killerspin table to make my list is the SVR Blackwing. This all black ping pong table is simply stunning. From its elegant and minimalistic curved legs to the outward slanted net, you’ll struggle to find a better looking table anywhere. It’s one of the few tables that are almost all black. Most have a white or grey undercarriage, or perhaps chrome parts on the wheels, but not the SVR Blackwing.

In terms of performance, the Blackwing SVR is good, but by no means great. It has an 18 mm thick playing surface which will be sufficient for most people, however, keen players will likely want something a little thicker.

The main drawback to this model besides the hefty price tag is its stationary design. You can’t fold this table up and store it when you are finished playing table tennis — it’s a permanent feature. But given its awesome appearance, why would you want to put it away?

RS Barcelona You and Me Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table barcelona

Specifications

Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
Table top: High-pressure laminate – unknown thickness
Type: 1-piece
Leg levelers: No
Weight: 242.5 lbs
Price: You might have to take out a loan!

Pros

  • Beautiful appearance
  • Storage for accessories
  • Doubles up as a dining table
  • Includes 6 balls and 2 paddles
  • 2-year warranty period

Cons

  • Stationary-style table
  • Low-quality net
  • 1-hour assembly time
  • No leg levelers
  • Very poor value for money

As the most expensive black ping pong table on this list, you should scroll on unless you have a deep wallet. The Barcelona You and Me is over twice the cost of the SVR Blackwing, so it really is a statement piece.

Before I forget, this table is in fact, waterproof. So it could have featured in the outdoor tables category, I just felt it fit more in the designer tables section instead given its insane price tag.

Like the SVR Blackwing, it has quite a minimal look to it with its lack of markings and basic undercarriage. It reminds me of other gaming tables which double as dining tables and sure enough, that’s the intention with this model. Take off the net, and guests would be none the wiser that it’s a table tennis table. Even the accessories holders are hidden — there is a compartment under the playing surface.

Unfortunately, the table top thickness is not specified, but then again, you’re probably not expecting outstanding table tennis quality with this table. All I can say is that it is made from high-pressure laminate. Just remember, outdoor tables almost always have worse bounce quality than indoor models.

Best Black Ping Pong Tables (Mini Models)

Killerspin MyT Lee Mini Ping Pong Table

black ping pong table myt lee

Specifications

Dimensions: 49.2 x 29.5 inches
Table top: Not listed
Type: 1-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: 42 lbs
Price: $

Pros

  • Easy to fit into your home
  • Folds for storage
  • Clamshell design makes carrying easy

Cons

  • Low-quality net
  • 1-year warranty

If you find yourself short of space at home, a mini table tennis table could be just what you are after. If this is the case let me present the Killerspin MyT Lee mini table. It’s a table tennis table that measures 49.2 x 29.5 inches — just under half the size of a full-size model.

This little guy may be small, but it will provide a tonne of fun to play on, and not just for kids, but adults too. I used to have a lower-quality mini table tennis table like this one, and I loved it to bits.

The great thing about its size is that it’s not a major obstruction in your home, this means you may well be able to keep it erected even when it’s not in use. But fear not, if you need to move it out of the way, you can easily fold it up thanks to its clamshell design — this also makes it a cinch to carry too!

STIGA Mini Table Black Edition

black ping pong table mini

Specifications

Dimensions: 50 x 28 inches
Table top: 12 mm
Type: 2-piece
Leg levelers: Yes
Weight: Unknown
Price: $

Pros

  • Easy to fit into your home
  • Folds for storage
  • Fully pre-assembled

Cons

  • Low-quality net
  • 1-year warranty

Looks like you’ve made it to the end of my recommendations (congratulations). This one is pretty brief as there is not much to comment on. The STIGA Mini table is virtually the same as the Killerspin Impact Mini. Their size is almost identical, they have similar appearances, a 12 mm play surface, and they cost the same.

All I can really say is that the STIGA Mini arrives fully pre-assembled whereas the Killerspin Impact Mini might not, as Killerspin does not specify. That being said, I imagine it does, so I can’t recommend one table over the other.

Summary

Having wrapped up this exhaustive list I can safely say that there is a black ping pong table for everyone. All of the boxes are ticked: casual, high-quality, outdoor, and mini! I have to say I was very surprised by just how many there are, I had no idea this article would get so long!

So let me take no more of your time and wrap it up here. Of course, go for whichever table you prefer, but if you want my opinion, the Onyx STIGA black ping pong table is the one to get. Put simply, the black and gold color scheme is to die for, it has a tournament-quality surface, and it’s VERY well-priced. You really can’t ask for anything more!
